Collagen stimulation · Gradual volume
Sculptra&Radiesse.Yourowncollagen,rebuilt.
Biostimulators that don't add volume — they trigger your own collagen production. Results build over 3–6 months and last 2+ years. A very different tool than HA filler.

Quick answer
Sculptra (poly-L-lactic acid) and Radiesse (calcium hydroxylapatite) are biostimulator injectables that stimulate your own collagen production, rather than adding volume directly like HA filler.
At Bravo MedSpa, biostimulators are placed exclusively by Irene Taylor, RN — they require advanced technique and planning. Results develop gradually over 3–6 months and last 2+ years. Not a same-day filler result — a long-term collagen rebuild.
Why clients choose biostimulators
When you want the result to last, and build naturally.
HA filler is the right tool for immediate, precise volume. Biostimulators are the right tool for gradual, collagen-driven structural lift — the two are complementary, not competing.
Cheek hollows that need more than one syringe of HA
If you're facing 3+ syringes of HA filler to restore cheek volume, biostimulators are often the better economic and biological choice. One Sculptra vial stimulates broad-area collagen.
You want results that last 2+ years
HA filler dissolves in 6–18 months. Sculptra and Radiesse results last 2 years and often longer as the stimulated collagen remodels slowly.
You don't want to look 'different' overnight
The gradual build is a feature, not a bug. No one at the office will say 'did you get something done' on Monday. Your face will look quietly better over 3–6 months.
Jawline and lower face laxity
Radiesse along the mandible rebuilds definition without the heaviness some HA products can cause. A favourite for mid-40s+ clients.
How it works
Microspheres in, collagen out.
01
Biostimulator injected into deep tissue
Sculptra (PLLA microspheres in carrier) or Radiesse (calcium hydroxylapatite microspheres) injected into sub-dermal or supra-periosteal plane — much deeper than HA.
02
Inflammation and fibroblast activation
The microspheres trigger a controlled inflammatory response. Fibroblasts arrive, recognise the foreign surface, and begin producing collagen around the microspheres.
03
Collagen remodelling over 3–6 months
Your own new collagen gradually replaces the carrier material. The microspheres themselves are fully biodegradable — it's your collagen doing the structural work.
The numbers
Two years of result. Six months of build.
Biostimulators reward patience. If you want instant cheeks, HA filler is the right tool. If you want durable structure, this is.

Treatment zones
Where biostimulators outperform HA filler.
Cheeks & mid-face
Sculptra or Radiesse in the deep malar fat pad. Broad, smooth, gradual lift. Typical series: 2–3 vials spaced 6 weeks apart.
Jawline & chin
Radiesse is the standout here — its mineral composition gives a firm, structural lift. Redefines jaw without the weight.
Temples
Temple hollowing from age-related fat loss. Sculptra or diluted Radiesse fills gradually. Technique-sensitive — cannula only.
Hands & chest
Off-face rejuvenation. Radiesse diluted into the dorsal hand restores volume to ageing hands; Sculptra into the chest rebuilds décolletage.
What happens at your session
The Bravo biostimulator protocol.
Extended consultation
Sculptra and Radiesse are planning-first products. Irene books a longer first visit (60 min) to map your face, review medical history, and explain the gradual-build expectation carefully.
Reconstitution (Sculptra specific)
Sculptra must be reconstituted 24+ hours before injection. We prepare your vials in advance of the appointment — arrive at your confirmed time.
Topical numbing (20 min)
Standard topical numbing cream. Biostimulator placement is deeper than HA, so adequate numbing is non-negotiable.
Cannula placement in planes
Micro-cannula into supra-periosteal or sub-dermal plane depending on zone. Much deeper than a lip filler; much more structural.
Massage protocol
Sculptra requires 5 minutes of firm massage per zone immediately after injection, then daily massage for 5 days. You'll learn the exact technique in-office.
Review at week 6, top-up scheduling
First review 6 weeks out. Most clients need a second vial to complete the series. Irene books the full series up-front based on your plan.
Results timeline
Gradual build, durable result.
Injection
Day 0
Immediate volume from the carrier fluid (Sculptra dissolves in weeks; Radiesse stays). Don't judge the long-term result today.
Initial settle
Week 3
Carrier absorbed (Sculptra). Face may look as if you haven't had anything done — this is expected and means the collagen phase is starting.
Early build
Month 3
First real collagen response visible. Cheeks starting to look structurally lifted. Second vial typically placed here.
Peak build
Month 6
Full collagen response. This is your 'final' result. Compare to pre-treatment photos — often a dramatic difference.
Long hold
Year 2+
Collagen-driven result remains. Many clients re-book for maintenance vial at 18–24 months.
Eligibility
Not for everyone. Honest on when it's right.
Who it's for
- Broad-area volume loss (cheeks, mid-face, jawline)
- Clients tired of HA filler cycle at 6–12 months
- Willing to wait 3–6 months for full result
- Medium-to-deep facial volume issues
- Décolletage and hand rejuvenation
- Mid-40s+ clients with chronic volume loss
Not right for
- Lip augmentation — HA filler is the correct tool
- Need for precise, single-zone correction
- Under-eye (tear trough) — HA only
- Pregnancy or breastfeeding
- Active autoimmune flare or untreated granulomatous disease
- Unable to commit to post-injection massage protocol (Sculptra)
Biostimulators are a completely different conversation than filler. If a client is already doing 3–4 syringes of HA a year, Sculptra is almost always the smarter path — economically and biologically.

Hartford & Rocky Hill
The Connecticut biostimulator client.
Biostimulators are the quiet favourite of Hartford-area clients in their mid-40s and up — especially those who've been doing HA filler for years and are ready for a longer-lasting solution. Irene typically sees the biostimulator conversation emerge at the 3-to-4-year mark of a filler relationship.
The gradual build makes Sculptra perfect for clients who don't want obvious before-and-afters. If you're a WeHa school board member or a Travelers VP, you can have the Bravo result without anyone at work asking 'did you get something done.'
